Azure certification levels

Microsoft has 3 levels of certification, each requires certain skills and knowledge needed in the cloud to be achieved. A professional who wants to obtain recognition by the multinational must prepare and take paid tests to become certified.

The 3 levels of certification are:

  • Fundamentals
  • Associate
  • Expert

For an infrastructure professional, it is important to have knowledge of the main tools on the market, Azure being one of them. See what the requirements are for each level and which ones best fit your needs.

Azure Fundamentals

This certification, also known as AZ-900, is the entry into the Azure universe. With it, mastery of the basics of technology becomes clear and fundamental concepts are explored.

It allows you to describe Azure architectural components and Azure services, such as compute, networking, and storage, as well as resources and tools to secure, control, and administer Azure.

What can Azure Fundamentals certification offer?

  • Proof of knowledge about cloud computing concepts, models and services, such as public, private and hybrid cloud, as well as IaaS (infrastructure as a service), PaaS (platform as a service) and SaaS (software as a service).
  • Understanding how Azure supports security, privacy, compliance, and trust.

This certification is not a prerequisite for the others, however it is important to have it to validate the basic concepts of the technology.

Azure Developer Associate

The second certification requires certain practical knowledge with Azure, being recognized as being the intermediate level and more aimed at system administrators, infrastructure and support professionals.

In it, you guarantee the expertise to participate in all phases of development, including requirements gathering, design, development, deployment, security, maintenance, performance tuning and monitoring.

To achieve this, you need to be proficient in Azure fundamentals, such as:

  • SDK
  • Data storage options
  • Data connections
  • APIs
  • Application authentication and authorization
  • Compute and container deployment
  • Debug

The AZ-204 exam requires 2 years of experience in Azure, understanding of programming in an Azure-supported language, and proficiency in using the Azure CLI, Azure PowerShell, and other tools.

Azure for SAP Workloads Specialty

The latest Azure certification, and also the most expert level, recognizes the professional as an architect or engineer with extensive experience and knowledge of the SAP system and industry standards specific to the migration or initial integration and long-term operation of an SAP solution in Microsoft Azure.

With this recognition, you can make informed service recommendations and adjust resources as appropriate to optimize resiliency, performance, scale, provisioning, size, and monitoring.

To take the test, broad and specific knowledge is required in:

  • SAP HANA
  • S/4HANA
  • SAP NetWeaver
  • SAP BW/4HANA
  • Operating system servers for SAP applications and databases
  • Azure portal
  • Azure Marketplace and Azure Resource Manager templates
  • Virtualization
  • Cloud Infrastructure
  • Storage Structures
  • High availability design
  • Disaster recovery design
  • Data and network protection concepts
